In this post, I have attempted to create in Adobe Illustrator the idea from the poster concept I drafted previously. My conceptual idea is based upon the sentimental nature which surrounds people during the time which surrounds valentines day.

My overall idea has focused upon being an advertisement. It revolves around steak and how steak is perceived to be a highly romantic and glamourous meal, often only cooked on special occasions – and more-so on valentines day. My idea plays upon the stereotype that “the man must cook the steaks on valentine’s”.
When composing my notes on the semiotics of the food I came to the conclusion that a steak can be cut to resemble that of one side of a heart and in turn can be doubled-up to form a whole ‘heart shape’, which is the symbol that is most distinctive when the word ‘love’ is spoken. The poster has an intended audience of a male primarily as they would typically be the one making the purchase. With this in mind, the text has been personalised to suit the male audience. I have adjusted slightly from the initial idea of simply “Make valentines special” to “Let’s make valentines extra special“. The inclusion of the word ‘extra’ gives the implied meaning that should they listen to the poster and that they are doing the best option. Whereas ‘let’s’ the contraction of “let us” implies that the product will do more, and there is less work to do for the male. The colour red is considered the most attractive to males and in turn is a colour they associate their significant other with. The bold text, combined with the black shadowing stems ideas of masculinity as it mimics that of the title sequences of action films and has connotations of power.
